The St Stephen’s Choir of Men & Boys, under the direction of Adric, will present its annual traditional Service of Lessons & Carols for Advent Sunday. Through scripture readings, carols and hymns, the service reflects the mystery and anticipation of the Advent season.
| | This year’s musical selections will include Arvo Pärt’s De profundis for men’s voices, organ and percussion, Felix Mendelssohn’s How lovely are the messengers from ‘Paulus’, Baltimore composer Robert Twynham’s mystical setting of the Rorate cœli, Jehan Alain’s Ave Maria for treble voices, Orlando Gibbons’ This is the record of John, John Gardner’s Tomorrow shall be my dancing day for choir, organ & percussion, and other works by Palestrina, McKie, Guest, Ledger & Cleobury.
| | The service begins at 5.30 PM and generally lasts between 60 and 75 minutes. Admission is free of charge, and visitors from all faith traditions are always heartily welcomed to join us in prayer.
| | Freewill offerings will be gratefully accepted at the entrance to the nave in support of the choirs charity, Dr Bobs Place, a hospice for children.
